Karen Lips Named Rotating Program Director in the Office of International Science and Engineering at the National Science Foundation

Biology Professor Karen Lips has accepted the position of rotating program director in the Office of International Science and Engineering at the National Science Foundation (NSF).

This position has two main roles:

  • Interdisciplinary Program Director in the Programs and Analysis Cluster (she will take over the AccelNet program)
  • Contributor to the Countries & Regions Cluster, where she will assist with science diplomacy, international agreements and meetings, monitoring science and technology developments, and other R&D issues between the U.S. and the countries of Central America and the Caribbean. 

Lips’ work at the NSF will build on her extensive science policy work. She was a Jefferson Science Fellow from 2016-18, working with the U.S. Department of State both domestically and internationally (in Colombia). She also is a Fullbright Fellow (2017-22) and an advisor to a number of National Science Foundation panels and committees.
