Marron McConnell
Ph.D. student, Biological Sciences: Behavior, Ecology, Evolution, and Systematics
I am Marron (she/her) a PhD candidate in Bill Fagan's lab in the Behavior, Ecology, Evolution and Systematics (BEES) program at the University of Maryland, College Park.
I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Statistics from Vassar College in 2019, where I focused on dynamical systems theory applied to species interactions and population biology.
In my graduate work, I use mathematical and statistical tools to answers questions about population dynamics, demography, sociality, infectious disease and animal movement in real world natural systems. My interests are broad, but my dissertation work has predominantly centered on two systems:
- Caribou in the North American Arctic, with funding from the National Science Foundation through the Fate of the Caribou project
- Scimitar-horned oryx in Chad, in partnership with the oryx reintroduction effort of the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute and its global partners
