Congratualations to Dr. Sean Carroll, Fiona Ukken and their team

Congratulations to Biology's Sean Carroll, Fiona Ukken and their team on their recent paper about rattlesnake venom published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS)!

This team of UMD researchers launched an investigation into the genome of the western diamondback rattlesnake and discovered that a single protein—called FETUA-3—was responsible for most of the snake's resistance to its own venom. FETUA-3's ability to counteract a large number of key venom toxins from other rattlesnakes also makes the protein a promising candidate as an 'ingredient' for better venomous snake bite treatments.
