PROFESSOR AND DIRECTOR
The University of Maryland invites applications for Director of the Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. Candidates are expected to be prominent scholars with publications and research experience at the interface of biological science and computing. Their primary responsibility will be to lead a nationally visible research program complementing existing strengths in computational genomics, proteomics, and molecular evolution. They will also be expected to promote the CBCB, and help build collaborative relationships, both on and off-campus. Information about the Center can be found at www.cbcb.umd.edu. Collectively, the CBCB faculty spans the fields of computer science, mathematics and statistics, biology, and biochemistry. The Center is housed in contiguous space and has access to significant high-end computing infrastructure through the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies. CBCB faculty members are also affiliated with at least one other campus academic unit appropriate to their interests. OPEN RANK PROFESSOR: (TENURE-TRACK)
INTEGRATIVE ECOLOGY AND EVOLUTIONARY BIOLOGY
The Department of Biology at the University of Maryland, College Park invites applications for a tenure-track position in integrative ecology and evolutionary biology, rank open. We seek outstanding candidates taking experimental, informatic and/or theoretical approaches to address major questions that complement interests of our ecology, evolution and developmental biology groups. Research topics include, but are not limited to, the influence of environment on the development of multicellular organisms, and the role of environment or interspecific interactions on ecological and evolutionary processes. Applicants must have a doctorate degree and should have developed, or demonstrate the potential to develop, an outstanding research program and a record of extramural funding. Applicants must also exhibit a commitment to excellence in teaching. Postdoctoral experience is preferred.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT
Neurophysiology lab seeks personnel to fill a vacancy for research
assistant to start at the end of Spring term/beginning of summer 2011.
The research group investigates the neural mechanisms of hearing on the
University of Maryland, College Park campus.
Start Date: Late May
Department/College: Biology Dept, College of Computer, Math. and Nat. Sciences
Starting Salary: commensurate with experience, plus standard University of Maryland health and other benefits
Duties: laboratory support for physiological experiments,
including preparation of chemical solutions, ordering supplies and
equipment, microscopy and histology work, tissue preparation, data
entry and analysis, administrative support as needed. Flexible
full-time week, but mornings required.
Qualifications: BA or BS in biology or related science. Wet
biology laboratory research experience and fine motors skills are
required. Those with electrophysiology experience are especially
encouraged to apply. Excellent organizational skills, ability to
multitask, dependability, time management and basic computer skills
needed. Desirable other qualifications include: expertise with bright
field and fluorescence microscopy, animal husbandry, molecular biology,
and/or electronics and programming.
